Our Story
About us
I have spent much of my life paying close attention to animals - to what they communicate, to what they need, and to the many ways in which we misread or miss the quiet signals they offer us every day.
Applied Zoopharmacognosy found me at the intersection of everything I believe about animals: that they are intelligent beings with an innate knowledge of what serves their wellbeing; that the relationship between animals and plants is ancient and wise; and that the role of the human in that relationship is not always to prescribe, but to facilitate.
I trained in Applied Zoopharmacognosy, Behavioural Science, Sensory Enrichment, Healing and Communication with a deep commitment to these methodologies and to the animals whose quality of life I work to support and improve.
Every consultation I offer is grounded in genuine knowledge of the distinctive emotional lives of the individual animals in my care.
I work in Cape Town in the homes of my clients, where animals are most themselves. I bring a full kit of organic remedies, a thorough pre-session questionnaire, unhurried time, and leave you with your animals’ key remedy selections and instructions about how to continue offering that which your animal has asked for more of.
When a behaviour modification program is needed, I integrate the remedies your animal has selected - setting them up for success and giving them what they've asked for.
The next day you receive a thorough written report that I hope becomes a lasting resource for you and your animal. Rooted in science and grounded in a holistic approach, this work is precise.
It is also consistently profound.
I would be honoured to introduce your animal to their own medicine.
Your animal knows what they need. i help them show you.
Anima Botanica offers private Applied Zoopharmacognosy consultations in Cape Town - a profound, animal-led practice in which your animal self-selects familiar organic natural remedies according to their own needs. Every session also explores behaviour, diet, nutrition and energy healing - building a complete and colourful picture of your animal's sovereign inner world.
In the wild, animals are in constant, instinctive conversation with the plants around them. They seek out specific natural materials to maintain balance, address physical discomfort, and navigate the complexity of their emotional lives. It is one of nature's most elegant and enduring systems of self-care, and it has been happening long before we had language for it. Applied Zoopharmacognosy brings that intelligence back.
In a consultation, your animal is offered a carefully curated selection of organic plant remedies - essential oils, hydrosols, macerated oils, dried plants, algaes and clays - and given complete freedom to choose. They inhale, ingest, ask for an application, or turn away entirely. Their selections, and the precise way they make them, tell a story about their inner world that no other method can access.
We translate that story for you.
This is not diagnostic tool. It is not treatment, and it is not prescriptive. It is a conversation between your animal, the plants they have always known how to use, and the person who loves them most.
And me, I will be there too :)
"It's unlike any other service I have encountered. In many traditional settings, symptoms are often treated based on observation and diagnosis. This approach felt much more collaborative, allowing the animal to communicate their needs and preferences." - M*, Ted's guardian
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
"A combination of intuition, compassion and medicine. It's difficult to put the experience into words, except that the effect it has had on my dog has been incredible." - S*, Teddy's guardian
"I am not sure how else one would find out about what Rocco wants without doing this session. They can't talk — so to me this is a clear way to communicate his needs to me." - L*, Rocco's guardian
"It was beautiful to sense into her and notice her preferences without anything being imposed - just her free will to choose." - T*, Coco's guardian
